FAQ

WHAT DO I DO ONCE MY DARK BAG® ARRIVES?

After making sure your frame is firmly attached to the wall, place The Dark Bag® over your artwork where it hangs, securing each corner of the bag at the corners. We designed The Dark Bag® to fit comfortably around a frame, without straining to cover it. Beginning at the top two corners, gently adjust the round stoppers to tighten the elastic band around the edges of the frame, cinching The Dark Bag® until it fits snugly. Larger bags for very big frames may require two people to install properly and safely.

To remove The Dark Bag® gently loosen the stoppers at the bottom corners, then loosen the top till the elastic is slack and the bag can be easily and carefully removed.

CAN I PLACE THIS COVER ON UNFRAMED OBJECTS?

The Dark Bag® was designed to be used with glazed artworks, ie. those that are protected by glass or acrylic coverings. Any use outside of this recommendation may leave specific artworks vulnerable to other issues that we cannot foresee. Please consult a qualified conservator for their recommendations.

WILL THE DARK BAG® GUARANTEE THAT MY ARTWORK WILL NOT CHANGE OVER TIME?

Use of The Dark Bag® will not remedy, impede nor prevent inherent degradation resulting from processes that may occur despite storage in dark conditions. Use of The Dark Bag® is not a guarantee that such deterioration will not occur. Some artworks will undergo changes even when stored in the dark. This product is not designed or intended for use on unframed and/or unglazed artwork. Please consult a qualified conservator for their recommendations.

HAS THE DARK BAG® BEEN TESTED?

The Dark Bag® has passed both the Oddy Test and the photographic activity test (PAT). An Oddy Test is a procedure developed to determine the safety of materials used in contact/close proximity to delicate art objects. And the PAT test explores the possibility of chemical interactions between photographs and a given material after prolonged contact, in this case the Dark Bag material.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY DARK BAG®?

The Dark Bag® is constructed with a light-blocking fabric that has 100% cotton on one side and an acrylic coating on the other side. This material essentially blocks all light, visible and UV. Should The Dark Bag® become stained or soiled, it can be hand-laundered or machine washed on a gentle cycle. Hang The Dark Bag® to air dry or use a low heat dryer setting; do not apply high heat from dryers or irons. When not in use, gently fold The Dark Bag® for storage.
Due to the natural materials used, slight color variations and occasional inclusions on the fabric surface may occur. This does not affect the performance of The Dark Bag®.

WHERE IS THE DARK BAG® MADE?

The Dark Bag® is designed, sewn and assembled in California. We are happy to support our local community of artisans,
